Blessings to all of you,
Yesterday's 2005 Daily Guideposts reflection by Gina Bridgeman encouraged me to reflect upon those who we rarely remember or give thanks for during the course of our busy days - those individuals behind the scenes.
No, I am not talking about camera crews and makeup artists for Hollywood; I am talking about the scenes of our lives. As she writes, "So many people toil anonymously to contribute to the smooth rhythm of modern life. I'm offering a prayer of blessing and thanks for all those who make getting through everyday a little easier." The following is a list I created of people who we might forget to give thanks for throughout the course of our day - ones that do not seek titles or fame, but rather anonymously make our days a little easier;
>
>
the custodians that clean our schools, shops, factories, and churches;
the farmers who wake up at 4:00 a.m. to milk their cows and start the tractors;
the nurses who work long hours into the nights drawing blood and attending to the sick;
>
the telephone operators who stand by to redirect our calls;
the cashiers who put on smiling faces despite the tempers that pass through their lines;
the bakers who faithfully awake early in the morning to prepare fresh, warm delicacies for our hungry tummies;
>
the church, mosque, temple, shrine staff that make our worship a little easie;r
the bus drivers who carefully maneuver the streets of our cities;
the wives who wash clothes for their husbands, and the husbands who take out the trash for their wives - or vice versa;
>
the water treatment workers, the oil drillers, the coal miners, the steel producers, and all those that provide necessary materials for our daily sustenance;
the fishermen and fisherwomen that labor long hours to bring the fresh catch to our shops;
>
the migrant workers who dedicate their fingers and backs to our juicy fruits and nutrient filled vegetables;
the taxi drivers, bag people at the airports, security guards, tourist guides, and all those who make our travel safer and more enriching;
>
the prayers, those that spend arduous minutes to hours blessing and directing the missions of all of us
and all those unmentioned but known to God
As VM's striving to live in community, may we always recognize in our hearts and prayers those who go unnoticed, un thanked, and the least of our brothers and sisters in community. They are so deserving of our love, compassion, and gratitude. "Lord, strengthen and inspire those who may work unseen, but certainly are not unknown to You."
In peace and solidarity,
Marty Jordan
