Volunteer Missionary Movement (VMM-USA) | home
Recently I received a newsletter from Witness for Peace. I was a longterm
volunteer with WFP in Nicaragua for three years, 1992-5.
The first article caught my attention: Waging Peace is tougher than Waging
War. Recently, WFP "lost" each of their 3-year lobbying campaigns: to stop
the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA); to lift the US embargo on
Cuba; to end US military aid to Columbia.
CAFTA will expand the neoliberal trade model that ravages workers, the
environment and small farmers.
We also need to work to change our government's policies - it's a unique
part of the work for justice that is ours to do. And we must keep at it,
despite the difficulty.
As witnesses for peace, we are called to stand courageous - even in these
turbulent times - committed to nonviolence, committed to see and understand
the world from the perspective of the poor and oppressed.
