01.10.06  Tuesdays Reflection
At Change for Children we received a poem entitled Christmas Spirit from
Father Rene Fumoleau, an Oblate missionary who has been working with Inuit
and native people in the Arctic for over 50 years.

Christmas Spirit
10 am
-You want something?
-Good morning sir. I'd like to buy this CD player for my boy.
-It's 39.99, plus tax.
-I can pay $20 now and the rest next month after I go trapping again. My
friends always trust me.
-But here it's a business. Sorry.

11 am
-Good morning, sir. How are you today?
-Fine, thank you. I am an engineer at Diavik mine (diamond mine). I want a
Deluxe AM/FM shortwave radio. I'm a bit overspent these days. I'll pay when
my next cheque comes in. How much interest will you charge me?
-No interest sir, we appreciate your patronage.

1 pm
-Good afternoon, sir. Aren't you the manager of the First Restaurant?
-Yes I am and I want to buy a dual-screen portable DVD player. Anything
around $400-500?
- Feel free to look around, sir, take your time. We are so happy to do
business with you, I'll give you a 10% discount.

3 pm
-Good afternoon, Father Jerry. You must be busy just before Christmas.
-You said it! but I took a few minutes off. I'd like to purchase a really
good TV set.
-Well, father, it's close to Christmas. I'll sell it to you at half price.

5 pm
-Good evening sir. It's an honour for me to see the owner of First Mine.
-Thank you sir. I would like to purchase a high quality TV set.
-We have this LC4DA5ULCD at $1,999, it is not the most expensive, but its
resolution is exceptional. And the Christmas spirit has caught up with me:
this will be our Christmas present to you.

This Sunday celebrating the visit of the Magi, I wondered at the faith of
the Magi who recognized God in a poor child in a manger. How often do I
behave differently with persons because they are more or less important in
my judgment. How easy to get caught up in ways that are so different from
the Gospel.

May we spread around the true Christmas Spirit!
