I was happy to receive a Christmas letter from Myriam and Domnall, VMs in
Guatemala. Myriam sent me the program of her exhibition in the Paseo de los
Museos, La Antigua Guatemala, December 10 to January 2. The exhibition was
called Lentes Verdes or Green Lenses. I offer you my translation of the
Spanish text for today's reflection.
When I have the chance to visit an art gallery or museum, I leave a
different person. My way of looking at things has changed.
All becomes "art", even an old broken door or the cobblestones of the street
become works of art.
And so, what is the reality?
There is a legend called The Wizard of Oz. Many, many years ago, in a
faraway country there was a king that obliged everyone to put on glasses
with green lenses. Everything the people saw was green in color and they
thought that was normal for everything to be green. That was their reality.
One day, a stranger arrived in their country and encourage them to remove
their glasses. Suddenly, they saw that the world around them had many
different, brilliant colors, colors that they had never imagined existed.
They were astounded.
Often in our daily life, we put on "green lenses". Our preoccupations and
problems prevent us from seeing Creation's extraordinary beauty.
When I paint I realize that there is a Higher Reality which surrounds us and
communites with us.
It is my hope that when you leave this exhibition, you will feel joy in your
heart and will have a renewed vision.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
