Volunteer Missionary Movement (VMM-USA) | home
We pursue our mission with the same trust and confidence that Christ had,
for we know that God is with us and will not leave us alone.
"I shall ask God and God will give you another Advocate to be with you
forever; that Spirit of truth whom the world can never receive, since it
neither sees nor knows the Spirit, but you, because the Spirit is with you,
and in you. I will not leave you orphans." (Jn 14:16-18)
Our mission begins with our faith in the Resurrection which sends us out on
the path of Jesus in hope and love to all the world.
Spirit and Lifestyle
"The Risen Christ continues to empower us through the Spirit, calling us to
an awareness of our wounded consciousness so that we might open ourselves to
God's healing and become vehicles of eco-social change.
"When considering the justice issues of trafficking and the practice of
turning water into a commodity, the healing of our wounded consciousness can
draw us into new ways of being in relationship with other persons and all
earth entities.
"For example, the graced consciousness found in Scripture can open our eyes
to the illusion that security is found outside us, in controlling or
dominating other people and the earth. Instead, we can allow the security
found in our communion with God to draw us into relationships of solidarity.
We see that solidarity is not a nebulous feeling of compassion for the pain
and suffering of others, but a choice and a commitment to work toward
changing social and economic systems that exclude and exploit so many people
as well as earth entities.
"The links between justice work and contemplative awareness are highlighting
the depth of transformation, which is needed. For something new and hopeful
to emerge in our world, we need to be engaged at all different levels,
changing not only how institutions function and how policies are shaped, but
also going deeper to open ourselves to the graces which will transform our
patterns of thinking and feeling."
