06.19.2007 Deeply Blessed Tuesdays Reflection
I am back from the VMM Assembly in Holy Mountain, 30 minutes out of
Milwaukee. My ten trips to Milwaukee from the fall of 1995 to this
June have all involved VMM. This time for the first time I was
actually in Milwaukee and realized that I had never been in Milwaukee
before! I had just assumed that I had! Too often we make ASSUMPTIONS
and treat them as THE TRUTH! It's often like that in our experiences
with people and events. In VMM we work to really get to know people
and issues and hope in this way to create peace and justice in our
world.
For reflection today, I send you a poem written by Edwina Gateley for
our 25th anniversary of VMM-USA.
DEEPLY BLESSED
We have not saved the world
but we have deeply loved it.
We have circled the globe with our song
of healing, and justice and hope,
touching a million souls and
birthing rainbows in
the dark and lonely corners.
Our gifts of friendship, faith and skills
we have scattered like stars
from west to east and north to south.
Teachers and healers, farmers and builders,
artisans and craftspeople,
prophets and preachers,
we have crossed the azure waters,
climbed the forbidding mountains and
trod the thirsting deserts,
driven by a simple mission
to love and heal in a broken world.
Some of us, saints and martyrs of modern times,
have died in mission,
broken in body, but never in Spirit
which dances on in all of us.
For 25 years we have sung our song
proclaiming the mission of Jesus and
standing for justice at home and abroad.
We have not saved the world
but we have deeply loved it.
Sing now with us
for we also
have been deeply blessed.
